"It's been real time, so it's been two years since they've both become agents of SHIELD," Scarlett Johansson, aka Black Widow, explained. "We're fighting on the ground, it's not like we have these superpowers that we use. So it's a working relationship. They find themselves in a situation where their working relationship becomes a more intimate friendship. I think they have some unexpected similarities between them. ... So this unexpected friendship forms and it's a complex relationship between them."
As Captain America, Chris Evans says he's more up to speed with modern times in The Winter Soldier than he was in The Avengers. Apparently he's got a cell phone, so he know how touch screens work now. But a cell phone is easy to figure out compared to the moral ambiguities he'll be facing in action, and in his relationship with Black Widow.
"Today it's a little harder to know what's the right thing to do," Evans said. "In this movie it's not about doing the right thing, it's about 'What is the right thing?' And I think we get to explore Cap struggling with that. It's not black and white. It's gray. And I think that's where his relationship with Black Widow gets interesting."
Evans and Johansson stopped short of describing any sort of actual romantic relationship in the movie, but it sounds like Cap will looking at Black Widow in a new light when The Winter Soldier hits theaters in April next year.
